"Bad Monkey" - Carl Hiaasen

"Bad Monkey" - Carl Hiaasen

Initial Response: LOL (most literally)

First Sentence: "On the hottest day of July, trolling in dead-calm waters near Key West, a tourist names James Mayberry reeled up a human arm." - Caarl Hiaasen (side note: if your not hooked on this first sentence you are hard to please)

From the Reader: I saw this book everywhere when it first came out, reasons unknown to me I never picked it up until finally it landed in my lap by chance. Gosh was I missing out! Be warned there are a few &*%#$ words here and there, but completely appropriate in my mind. This was a superb mystery/comedy wrapped into an excellent novel making you laugh and wanting more.

Best With: Its a salty ready, set in a coastal setting so beer and nuts made a perfect combination. I felt it really placed me in the space well.

Recommend to: Older brothers, someone needing a good laugh, the friend who swears too much, uncles who read, someone going on vacation. Might want to filter a tad bit due to content. Hasn't stopped me much from recommending though!

Ideal reading spot: Its the perfect book to crack on the cusp of travel, the night before your flight to a warmer destination. On the plane you will not notice the child screaming in front of you the story is read so well. (okay maybe you will hear the kid)

Category: Pure Sunlight, this book reads like a ray of beautiful %$#&*@ light! It is humerous, but at the same time I truly cared for most of the characters and enjoyed seeing into their world which is so different from my Minnesota life. I rarely laugh out loud to books, but this one did it!

On the Pages:  Set in sunny Miami, our lead character Yancy finds himself with a human arm in his freezer. As a former member of the Miami police you join his adventure solving this mystery and several others on the way. With many distinctive characters you fall into a story with zany brilliance among the madness.

Finale: If you are persistent enough and know the right people, things may just end up alright.
