"You are a Badass" - Jen Sincero
Initial Response: I FEEL AMAZING!
First Sentence: ""You can start out with nothing, and out of nothing, and out of no way, a way will be made." - Reverend Michael Bernard Beckwith; former drug enthusiast turned spiritual enthusiast turned inspirational badass. I used to think quotes like this were a bunch of crap." - Jen Sincero
From the Reader: At a previous job I participated in a survey about myself. I had to send this survey to numerous co-workers and friends. The results were anonymous and told an interesting story. Both my best and worst attributes were the same, "how much I care". As a positive I care greatly about people and have large amounts of empathy. As a negative I care too much about what people think, which can lead to lack of confidence. The feedback was great but I did not know where to go with the information, I was led to this book on a whim and I was pleasantly surprised. I found it constructive, well written, inspiriting and laugh out loud funny! Due to this humor mixed in with great advice I cruised through the reading and recommend it to many friends.
Best With: I read this at a destination wedding in Mexico, and it suited me well with a tequila shot in the sun!
Recommend to: I think everyone can benefit from this book, no matter what stage in life you are at, it can give perspective and inspiration.
Ideal reading spot: A quiet space outside. Have highlighters and page markers prepared. You will want them, as you can see by my pictures I had to save numerous pages!
Category: Although I immediately wanted to put this into "Pure Sunshine", it is placed into "Clear Skies" since I think it brought some clarity to my thinking. It is a good fresh start
On the Pages: The book is described as self-help, but I find that is such a narrow description, just the word "self-help" brings judgement and criticism from those a tad narrow minded. I would categorize it as such "a conversation with a brilliant funny friend while having a glass of wine, you may cry, laugh and a yell, but in the end you find yourself refreshed, raw and ready for the day ahead with fresh ideas and a bit more sass then the day before". By using stories, examples, quotes and some very good advice Jen Sincero has modernized "self-help" into something wonderful.
Finale: Live your life to the fullest, be brave and have some fun with it!
